    I have a problem with the 2.3.1 update to Storefront.

    The text color for the content of the Homepage template is now fixed at #000000, whereas previously it was optimized for legibility over the image. This is a problem because the contrast is entirely lost and the text has become unreadable. Even if I try to override the color by setting my own styles for .entry-title and .entry-content, #000000 takes precedence.

    When I inspect the heading and content, I see that the color is being overwritten by the following CSS. But danged if I can figure out where it’s coming from.

    .page-template-template-homepage.has-post-thumbnail .type-page.has-post-thumbnail .entry-title {
        color: #000000;
    }
    .page-template-template-homepage.has-post-thumbnail .type-page.has-post-thumbnail .entry-content {
        color: #000000;
    }

    I tried to override it with the following, but no joy. When I inspect the page, I see that my text-shadow style works, but the color style is being ignored.

    .entry-title, .entry-content {
        color: #ccc;
        text-shadow: 2px 2px 2px #222;
    }

    Thoughts? Assistance? Commiseration?

  • Hi Mark,

    You can change the color of the text in the WordPress Customizer. Go to Appearance > Customizer in your WordPress admin, under “Typography” you’ll find two color controls for the homepage “Hero” section.

    Hope this helps. 🙂

    Well, it certainly seems like a “Doh!” is in order here. Thanks, that was easy.

    What changed? The previous version appeared to allow the browser to adjust the font color depending on the image. I preferred that so my client can change his own images without having to worry about such things.

    Hey @marktomlinson, while the automation was nice for some, it still wasn’t a perfect approach. With this approach, the user has a bit more control to assure that the readability stays high.

    And here’s the mention in the changelog about that:

    https://github.com/woocommerce/storefront/blob/74303ed40cb8e461e487ca7fa61250b34711953f/README.txt#L64

    I’m going to mark this as resolved – if you have any further questions, you can start a new thread.
