    Greetings,

All of a sudden, without changing anything, my homepage has gone to just showing the word “test”. No matter what page I choose to present as the main one, this is all it shows, and I know that the proper code is there. I just don’t know why it’s showing this.

The other pages are working normally.

Is this a common problem? What should I do to fix it?

    Thank you.

  • I’ve tried changing themes and the error still persists. I’ve also updated WordPress.

Can you provide a link to your site?

Also take a look at what is happening inside of index.php. Seems like an issue in that file.

    Yes, it’s: http://www.dianasousa.com.

I’ve looked at the index.php page, and everything seems to be all right. I haven’t changed anything, so I don’t understand why this is happening out of nowhere :\

Thank you for taking a look!

Ohh, You probably have a custom template ovverriding the default homepage. I’m not sure what your home page by default is. Check for any files named home.php, index-home.php, new-home.php something with home.php or index.php in the name.

You need to look via FTP, btw and open the files in a text editor.

I’d almost guarantee the file only has ‘test’ in it.

Take a look at this, in regards to WordPress template hirearcy and how WordPress decides what files to display where:

    Codex Reference

… You were right! There was a “index.html” in the FTP server with just that written on it. This is so strange, seeing as I didn’t change anything, didn’t add any new files… perhaps they changed something that caused this?

Oh, this ended up being so easy to fix. But thank you, Evan, really!

Not a problem at all, Diana!

Have a great afternoon, and happy WordPress-ing!
