Support » Plugin: YARPP - Yet Another Related Posts Plugin » Hogs resources and messes up theme files

  • I decided to uninstall this plugin after discovering it takes so much resources from my server (shared hosting environment).

Once I did that, I discovered to my horror that it messes up the sidebar on the single post template.

Apparently it ads a call to the single post template and ‘forgets’ to remove it after the plugin is removed.

If you just want to display related posts, the applicable module in Jetpack does the job great.
If you want to monetise by displaying posts from other sites, I’d use the ‘related posts’ module in Shareaholic.

  • I had the same problem with my theme. Did you figure out what you needed to do to repair the theme template after uninstalling?

What theme do you use Paul if I may ask?

I was using the Blox theme on my site (heavily customised).

With regards to fixing this issue, I would have no clue how to do it. I am not a programmer or a web developer.

I got a web developer to look at the site after I noticed my sidebar was no longer appearing after removing YARRP and he discovered the issue and explained it to me.

He was also the one who fixed it so I can’t help you unfortunately.

For the rest of you: AVOID this plugin. As simple as that. Plenty of other fish in the ocean.

I’m using a customized lifestyle theme. I’m still using the plugin but feel i’m held hostage because I can’t disable it or uninstall without breaking my site’s functionality. I looked briefly thought the code but couldn’t figure out the problem. Given enough time I can but time is precious and I don’t have any more to spare right now.
