Hit and miss, but great when it works.

I looked to move my hosting (15 sites) over to SG late last year, but hit a snag with the very first site using this plugin and couldn’t stomach the the thought of migrating all 15 site manually.

I decided to give another go this week as my old hosts are getting worse and I generally like Siteground from what I’ve seen in my day job use. This time, I tried the SG plugin with a newer, smaller site and it went perfectly. The bigger and older sites definitely cause this plugin issues. Of the 10 sites I’ve migrated so far, the SG plugin has failed on 5 of them.

Thankfully, I’ve also discovered the Migrate Guru plugin, which has worked every time with the sites SG Migrator fails on. I’d rather use SG Migrator as it gives my clients a 48 hour preview of the migrated site without impacting the live site, but if it doesn’t work I just use Migrate Guru.

Overall, happy with the plugin, and most importantly, Siteground as a host are fantastic.
