    Hi there,
in the recent weeks it started that I receive an increased amount of SPAM comments on my blog (see “page you need help with”).

The comments are marked as “[Spam]” fortunately – but due to the dull nature of the content, event actually containing the word viagra, I am reaching out to see, if others also experience this.

    My WordPress setup:

    • WordPress 5.6.2
    • Akismet Anti-Spam 4.1.8
    • Jetpack by WordPress.com 9.4
    • Subscription Type: Akismet Personal
    • Status: Active
    • Akismet anti-spam strictness: Silently discard the worst and most pervasive spam so I never see it

    Detailed Akismet Spam-Protection Stats
Notice the increase in February 2021.

DATE	SPAM	HAM	MISSED SPAM	FALSE POSITIVES
    February 2021	26	42	0	1
    January 2021	5	18	0	0
    December 2020	3	19	0	0
    November 2020	7	9	3	0

Of these, alone in the last two days 10 comments are marked as “[Spam]”, but should be “Ham”, I guess. Here’s an outtake of such Spam Comments:

Addition: might be seeing the same as reported in this thread «Spam comments»

Is the issue that spam comments are being approved by Akismet or that they’re being caught but not automatically deleted?

    Thread Starter Oliver

    (@oliverraduner)

@cfinke the latter: being caught, but would expect it to be “strict” on these cases.

Honestly I compare it to the months < February 2021 where I received zero-to-one such flagged spam comments per month – was I just lucky for long? 😉

The bar for what is discarded automatically is pretty high so as not to automatically discard something that has any chance of being a false positive. I’d wager that you were just lucky for a while. 🙂

@cfinke is there some way to report such spam-comments in order to help optimize the filter-rule on the global scale? Or does it learn automatically fron when I delete spam-marked comments?

There’s no way to report them, but I’ll take a look at our settings for determining what’s considered discardable to make sure we have it tuned properly.

    Cool thanks 👍

@cfinke not sure if you were actually able to improve the pervasive spam rule, or it‘s just „luck“ again – but since our discussion here I did not receive a single, marked as spam, comment of the mentioned kind!

Let’s say it was definitely the changes I made. 🙂 Glad to hear it’s working better.
