Support » Plugin: Swift Performance Lite » High CPU Server Usage Due to Hundreds of Cron Events

So I tried this plugin and was pleasantly surprised at how fast my front end pages loaded on my shared hosting. I BIG problem I ran into, however, was that the plugin created HUNDREDS of cron jobs that were all trying to run at the same time which was overwhelming my server’s CPU which was maxing above 95%. I have about 23 pages and 1 post so I’m confused why there was such an enormous amount of cron jobs running for the pre-build caching. I had to deactivate the plugin and then delete all the cron events to bring my CPU load back to normal.

Perhaps I’m missing something but this is a major issue which will prevent me from using this plugin unless we can find a solution.

Sorry for the delay. My first question has to be, are you certain these were crons spawned by swift? Who are you hosted with? If you are interested in trying again, please follow the following steps:

Uninstall Swift the normal way through wp-admin > plugins dashboard
Use FTP or your hosts file manager to check htaccess file. Make sure all rules written by Swift have been removed.
Check folder wp-content > cache to see if swift-performance folder has been removed. If not, please delete it.
Download the newest version of the plugin and install the normal way.
If you get the same behavior, please get a copy of your server error logs so we can trace this down.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I am sure it was Swift. I had at least hundreds of Swift preload cron entries in my cron events list all scheduled for “now”. Server support confirmed that my WP cron was the cause of the high CPU usage which is what led me to find all of the Swift preload entires. This went on for about 48 hours until I saw in cPanel that my CPU usage was redlining above 95%. As soon as I removed all of the Swift preload crons, my server CPU usage dropped back to normal. I deleted the plugin while waiting to hear back from you. I will consider trying again as soon as I can do it during a time of low site activity.

Thanks for the update. I know this isn’t resolved but I am closing this thread. You can open a new one if you decide to try the plugin again.

Thanks. To answer your earlier question, I’m hosted with LiquidWeb on a VPS.

Oops, sorry. Was thinking of a different client’s site. The site I tried Swift on is hosted with InMotion Hosting on a shared server.
