I’m not really sure if this is a support request, a bug report or just a gripe.
One of my sidebars has been consistently slow to appear since I upgraded to 2.1, and having tried a few things, I’ve realised it’s the category list. My blog is here, if you want to see what I’m talking about.
Specifically, if I ask for the categories to display alphabetically, they appear very quickly. If I ask it to display them hierarchically, the 2-3 second delay kicks in.
I use a lot of categories and many of them are nested, but surely it shouldn’t be so sluggish? I don’t recall this being a problem with WP 2.0, although I can’t see an easy way to test that.
At the moment I’m using Brandon Fuller’s unfold_list_categories plugin to hide the child categories, and I thought it might be that that was causing the delay, but I’ve tried without and there’s no improvement.
Am I imagining the fact that this is new to 2.1? Can anyone suggest a solution?
