    Hello!

I have Geo my WP installed and am using the search widget in several areas on my site to help with searching some custom post types created.

One of the post types, Listings, has two taxonomy types associated with it: Stores & Classes.

I have setup the Categories to make Stores & Classes the Parent and all other categories as children underneath.

My question then, is there a way to hide Store Categories on the Search Widget Category dropdown thats for searching Classes and vice versa?

As it stands right now, going to search for Classes while on the Classes page using the shortcode to output the search as a widget it will also show Store Categories as both are the Listing Post type and I guess it just lists all categories attached to the post type, is there a way to hide/filter the un-wanted categories from the dropdown list?

    Hi,
First, i am trying to understand better:

One of the post types, Listings, has two taxonomy types associated with it: Stores & Classes.

The post type Listing has two registered taxonomies one called “Stores” and the other “classes”? or only one registered taxonomy called “Categories” with two parent terms (categories) called “Stores” and “Classes”?

I do believe that you have one registered taxonomy with two parent categories. and if that is the case the first thing i would suggest is registering another taxonomy ( or two).
So you would have two registered taxonomy one for “Stores” and the other for “Classes”.
That i believe will give you much more control on your site, not just GEO my WP, and will be more organized. And i am not sure if you know how to register new taxonomy or not but it is pretty simple. So having two taxonomies, each with its own terms ( categories ), you will be able to create multiple search forms ( with GEO my WP ) with only one taxonomy to choose from.
So you will be able to create two search forms one for each of the taxonomies and display them each on its own page or in the sidebar.

Another option will be to leave your taxonomy as is and do some hard-coding to the plugin. I can probably help/guide on that. But i will need to look into it first and see how easily it can be done.

Last option that i can see ,which will be quick but with a little cost, is getting the “Premium Settings” add-on which one of its many features is the ability to have more control on the taxonomy displaying in the search form. You can have dropdown or checkboxes taxonomies and you can choose to exclude terms by IDs. So you will be able to create two search form which in one you will be able to exclude the “Stores” term and in the other you will exclude the “Classes”.

I hope you’ll find the info above helpful. Let me know if you have any more questions.

    Thank you
    Eyal
