On my front page I would like to have nothing visible but my header image and a menu. Is it possible to do this with WordPress settings? Thank you for any help.

    Hello Esmi,
I do have a static front page. And a separate page set as the Post Page. They both have slightly different post boxes. I’ve read the basic documentation for Static Pages. Maybe the solution is sitting in front of my nose, but I do not see any way to hide the box on the static front page, although I know it is possible somehow. Twenty Ten Weaver has a custom header that sounds like it will, but I’d rather look for a solution that didn’t require me to fumble with code. I’ve found plugins to hide other things, but this eludes me. Thanks for any clarification.

Simply remove the content from your static front page.

Truly, I have searched documentation in various ways, but unless you know the exact phrase to describe what is needed, it can be impossible to find your answer. I do not know how to remove the content. I have clicked up and down the various admin boxes looking for something to check or refine. I just tried actually deleting what was on the page, since that’s my idea of simple. But I didn’t expect it to work. Is there a box to check to remove content? if so, where is it located? Do I have to go to the editor and delete it there? Totally scary for a newbie. I am quite willing to be humiliated with how simple it all is – it’s much better than hunting futilily for hours or days in search of a solution to a problem.

Edit the page. See the big box where all of your page content goes? Delete all of that content.

I If I try to delete that big block of empty boxes on the actual front page, it flips me away to the admin page and comes back exactly as before. On the admin page are the tools, and the box for enterying posts, which is already empty and has no content. I do not want to remove a post – I want the whole shebang to be invisible, just the header and menu visible.

You just need to remove the content in the post content box on Edit Page. The one that has the toolbar above it and the word count below it. See http://codex.wordpress.org/File:write1.png

Okay. I’m figuring out part of the problem with my question. The post box was empty, and no posts were visible, but other boxes were visible and I was trying to find a way to get rid of all of them, so that all a visitor would see on the page were the Header and Menu. Because a visitor had a place to leave a comment, I considered that a posting box. I’ve turned off the leave a comment box so it’s blank too, though more visible than I wanted. I think I can turn off the rest sidebars and such and get close to the look I want on the front page.
