Hiding download directory

  • I have a pdf file (Download Button) on my wordpress site.

When you click on the link to download the file, the directory shows up in the address bar when the file downloads

Is there a way to hide the directory?

I do not want people to see the directory where the file is located.

  • Are you trying to offer downloads on your site of products for sale or something?

Hiding the download directory in general isn’t possible across the site, it’s a common directory

But, there are plugins available designed for offering downloads which helps you to control your products

    I am not selling anything.

I just would like to protect/hide my directories.

    Example:

    http://mysite.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/form.pdf

If a person clicks to download my form, they see exactly where it resides and they can go to that directory and see what else is there. I suppose that is not a big deal but I prefer to keep snoops out of my “uploads” folder for instance.

You should have directory listing turned off at the server level….

WP inserts nearly blank ‘silence is golden’ php files into a lot of directories to block browsing as well… not sure about upload directories.

It might be a setting you can configure through your hosting, or through .htaccess file
