I’ve been experimenting with making a couple of web stories, which has been going well, but the other day I noticed that when you search for something on my site, the web stories appear in the search results just like they are regular posts. For example, if you search for puff pastry on my website http://www.vanillabeancuisine.com, my Puff Pastry Cinnamon Rolls web story appears in the results as well as my Puff Pastry Cinnamon Rolls actual post. I don’t want the web stories in the search results–it’s confusing, and not what the user is searching for. How can I prevent these from showing up in search results?

@chefmolly Thank you for your topic. Glad to hear your experience with creating Web Stories is going well thus far.

The Web Stories plugin by default enables stories to appear in search, but you can install this example plugin if you prefer stories don’t appear in the site search at all

Hi Luckyna! Thanks so much for your speedy response. Forgive me for not being particularly technical though–I’ve only ever added a plugin after searching for it in WordPress and clicking activate. How do I add the mini-plugin? It looks like there is a bunch of code to copy somewhere? Thank you!

@chefmolly Once you follow the link for the example plugin, click on Download ZIP.

Navigate to WordPress Plugins > Add new > Upload plugin > Choose file > upload the file you downloaded from GitHub above > Install Now.

Please let me know if there are any issues.

You got it! Just wrote my review. Thanks again for your help!

It would be great if there was a way to do this without needing yet another plugin =(
