# Hide Username

 * When I created my username, I didn’t know it would be displayed on search engine
   searches—so I used my personal e-mail. I don’t like having my personal e-mail
   out there for the world to see. How do I hide this from search engines? (If you’re
   going to recommend I go the “robots.txt” route, please be _very_ specific, because
   I’ve tried that already and it doesn’t seem to be working/I don’t know how to
   do it.)

 * I don’t believe that WP makes public your email by default. You can read about
   that policy [here](http://codex.wordpress.org/Users_Your_Profile_Screen), under
   the ‘Your Profile and Personal Options’ section. As mentioned there, though, 
   it _is_ possible for a theme to do so, so take that into consideration.
 * Now if you’re saying that you used your email as your username (or you just want
   to change it anyway), you may just want to create a new user with admin status,
   and delete the original. When you do that, you should be given the opportunity
   to assign the posts of the to-be-deleted user to another (i.e. the new admin)
   one. Read up on [user deletions here](http://codex.wordpress.org/Users_Screen#Delete_Users).
 * As always, make sure to backup your database _before_ making a big change like
   this. That way you can fall back to it if you need to for some reason.
