• I need to use custom excerpts for my site, but I can’t find any way to hide them when viewing the post as a single post. Basically, I need the custom excerpt to appear in the post preview, but not in the single post.

I’ve already tried every excerpt plugin I can find, and there doesn’t seem to be anyone having any luck fixing this issue. I’m not sure why WordPress would default to repeating content in this way, but it’s very frustrating.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

  • Typically, a theme uses the_excerpt() in index.php and the_content() in single.php. What theme are you using?

Also, please share a link to your site…that may help shed some light on the problem.

    I’m using “Editorial”

You are correct about the content of those two files, but the excerpt still shows up in a single post. I know this is wordpress’ default because there are a number of people trying to fix this issue in message boards. It just doesn’t seem like anyone’s found a work-around yet.

I’m sorry but as you are using a non-WPORG theme, you need to seek support from the theme’s developers – paid or otherwise. We only support themes downloaded from wordpress.org here.

Yeah, that is a theme-specific problem. To confirm, try switching to the default WordPress theme.
