  • Hey,

I have a number of sites that have been deleted by my host and when I try to upload backups it isn’t letting me because a virus is found.

    {HEX}php.generic.malware.440.UNOFFICIAL FOUND

Anyone know what this is and how I can get rid of it to get my sites back up?

    Thanks 🙂

Take a deep breath and carefully follow this guide. When you’re done, you may want to implement some (if not all) of the recommended security measures.

If you’re unable to clean your site(s) successfully, there are reputable organizations that can clean your sites for you. Sucuri and Wordfence are a couple.

Thanks for the reply Steve 🙂

If I have the database from a backup, can I simply reinstall a new wordpress?
Id have to check the database version though and maybe an upgrade is needed.

This has happened on a lot of WP sites I have and on different servers, the passwords have always been different and I’d say very secure.

    Thanks again Steve

Yes, but you’ll also need wp-content/uploads — and make sure there are no PHP files in there.

This is on two different WP sites though, CompleteDiet.com and DecorationBlog.com – Theres nothing up right now on them because the host doesnt allow me to upload the backup, its showing that they have this virus.

If the host will not allow uploading a backup, you may need to install WP locally, clean it up, then migrate it back to the host.

    Some guides to local installation:
