 * What happens if you put a file like that described in the [Finding server information](http://codex.wordpress.org/Finding_server_info)
   article? Can you successfully browse to that and see the phpinfo?

 * Have you done what the error told you, and looked in your logs? For further information
   you can switch Apache to debug log mode by editing httpd.conf.

 * I have the exact same problem. I did install wordpress 2.2 successfully, and
   the blog was working fine.
    At some point I edited the wp-config.php file to
   switch to french langugae, and that is when the Internal Error started happening.
   Blog is here : toulouse.trafic.free.fr/blog/ Maybe some strange character in
   the file got truncated wjen editing, thus causing the problen ? Strange thing
   is that the admin interface seems to be working well.

 * If you are using Apache, edit httpd.conf, and switch logging to debug mode (its
   all explained well within the file). Then visit the page that gives you a 500
   error, and have a look in your Apache log. Then post the stuff in the log that
   is time-stamped around the time you got the 500 error.

 * The problem is that I don’t own the Apache configuration. It’s the one of my
   hoster.

 * Hi,
    I am a total newbie to this whole, internet web site, hosting, wordpress
   thing Suppose we all have to start some where. Please be gentle 
 * I am getting the same error :-
    **Internal Server Error** The server encountered
   an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
   Please contact the server administrator, [webmaster@elogicway.com](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/help500-internal-server-error/webmaster@elogicway.com?output_format=md)
   and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done
   that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available
   in the server error log. Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was
   encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
 * I got in contact with my host and they reported back with :- ..
    **This has been
   fixed by removing the word Array from two instances of your .htaccess file. **
 * Problem fixed for about 5 minutes.
    Then as soon as I try to publish a post,
   the same problem occurred again getting the same server error message.
 * My host again responded:-
    **i have removed the entires for Array**
 * This has happened now 4 times, and removing the word array
    seems to fix things
   temporarily until I try update any part of wordpress. Then the error just appears
   again. Frustrating
 * Last message from my host was:-
    **i would disable whatever module is causing
   this. to fix the problem view your .htacess file and remove the two instances
   of Array just delete the word then save the file again. or just delete .htacess
   or rename the file to something else. I removed the two instances of Array,
   but this didn’t work. I have not tried deleting the .htaccess file or renaming
   it. I thought I would wait and see if anyone had any other solution to my problem.
   As I am not sure of what the consequences of deleting or renaming the .htacess
   file could cause.
 * Also the visual editor does not show when trying to write a post or page.
    Anyone
   have any idea how this can be fixed??? Once I get WordPress up and running again
 * Cheers
    DiDe

 * Something is rewriting stuff into your .htaccess. Serveral possibilities.
    1.
   Your choice of permalink structure is confusing something in wordpress. 2. You’re
   running a plugin and it rewriting .htaccess.
 * I’d deactivate all plugins and switch back to the default theme until you get
   it sorted out. If it’s a brand new blog, you can toss away the faulty .htaceess(
   or even better, make an empty one – delete every thing in that file).
 * Now I have to guess and I could be wrong. Any chance your using FrontPage or
   Dreamweaver and your host configuration doesn’t allow for that. Just a wild ass
   guess.

 * Hi ccoupe
 * Thank you… That worked a treat.
    I cleared out the htacess file and the internal
   error message has gone and I now and get into my blog. Yeah ….Very happy. Now
   I can try and get some work done.
 * I don’t know exactly what you mean by …
 * “Any chance your using FrontPage or Dreamweaver and your
    host configuration
   doesn’t allow for that. “
 * What I did >>.
    Because the visual editor wasn’t there. I created a landing page
   in Dreamweaver, and then copied and pasted the html code into the wordpress Page
   Content space. It made a terrible mess of all the formatting,
 * Then shortly after that WordPress crashed and I haven’t repeated that process
   again.
 * Could that have something to do with the problem?.
    I am now using a fresh install.
   No plugins… totally raw..
 * I still have NO Visual Editor. Any clue how to get the visual editor working.
   I watched a training video on wordpress and noticed the WYSWYG type editing buttons,
   I don’t see any.
 * Also the drag and drop widgets feature will not work,
    I get a 4 arrowhead curser,
   and it will only highlight the text, nothing else..
 * I’m a bit worried that there is something wrong with this particular install
   from my host. It seems to be full of little bugs and this is going to be a nightmare
   to
    get it working probably.
 * Your thoughts and any suggestions.
    Cheers

 * Good. You have a working blog.
 * Don’t use Dreamweaver to post to your blog or modify your WordPress files.
 * Don’t put Dreamweaver suggested html into a a template or .htaccess. (as we’ve
   learned – yes, that will screw up bigtime)
 * Did I mention, don’t use use DreamWeaver? There are technical reasons. Firefox
   1.5+ will do just fine for posting words and the free world has plenty of FTP
   clients for uploading pictures and such.
 * I don’t have the video you’ve seen. Drag and drop seems to be “a new widget”
   thing and the theme has to support “widgets” and odds are the default theme doesn’t.
   That’s OK, a working blog is very good.
 * The visual editor may need to be enabled somewhere in the admin screens and it
   may depend on the browser you are using. Install Firefox and see if the problems
   get more managable. That doesn’t mean your users have to have Firefox but the
   admin (you) might have to. Or not.
 * WordPress does work. It does have little bugs but nothing that will keep you
   or your content off the web. The interaction between theme and the basics can
   be full of errors so go slowly on the theme and widgets path. Get the content
   flowing properly for your users. Then make it look nice. Then make it better
   for you.
 * Never ask me for suggestions. It’s better for us all if I just fix a problem
   or two.

 * I encounter the same problem when upgrading to 2.2. I have not touched any file
   with dreamweaver or frontpage.

 * The same 500 error caused by garbage in .htaccess?
 * I suspect one of your plugins isn’t 2.2 happy if your .htaccess is getting trashed
   repeatedly.

 * Thanks for your help. 🙂
    I have got WP up and running and have not had it crash
   for 24 hrs… Yeah….. But still no visual editor. I tried using FireFox and IE
   both are the same no visual editor.
 * My host suggested that I download a copy directly from
    WordPress and Install
   it myself manually.
 * I think a new host might be a better answer.
 * I’ll let you know how I go..
 * Thanks a heap
