hello, i was having problems with performance because of to many saved revisions of my posts. I looked around and found out i could add line define(‘WP_POST_REVISIONS’, 3); to the wp-config.php file to make it so i only save three revisions. I FTPed to my server, downloaded the file, added the line to the end, and uploaded the new file. when i tried to go to the admin page i kept getting 500 server error. I deleted the wp-config file and re-uploaded the old version but the admin page still errors out. I can go to the regular wordpress site without any errors and the top admin nav bar still shows up as if im logged in as admin but whenever i try to access any part of the admin page i get the same 500 error. any ideas? i have no clue what happened…..

Check your site’s error logs for a more specific error message.

Make sure to edit wp-config file in a plain text editor.

thank you for your response tara, after a lot of research i found some people that had similar problems. I fixed my problem with the following steps

    1. changed plugins folder name from plugins to plugins.hold
    2. was then able to get to the dashboard
    3. once logged in and in the dashboard, change plugins.hold back to plugins, all plugins are now available but deactivated
    4. reactivated each plugin one by one until i found the one that was causing the problems.
    5. the plugin that caused the problem was WP CleanFix
    6. Deleted the WP CleanFix plugin and my site is back up and running as normal 🙂

marking my topic as resolved, posted this solution for anyone else who runs into same problem and finds this thread. avoid WP CleanFix at all costs !!!
