• Hello Wise Owls,
First, thank you Andrew for pointing me here.
I’m a publishing student, new to WordPress, and having a bit of difficulty. My new and incomplete fashionistas theme site is inandaroundtheword.com, and I’m trying to figure out how to add two drop-down menus to the Pub 101 menu; I followed the directions from here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/
but it did absolutely nothing. I’m also trying to delete the home menu and to centre the headers. I looked through previous discussions about all of this stuff, and I see that solutions lie in the coding, which I’m foolong around with and actually figured out how to change the title from upper to lower case. Yay! Progress. I realize that I sound like a complete novice–why yes, I am. Any and all help would be mightily appreciated.
    Viktoria

  • See if this makes more sense:

The page you were looking at above is on WordPress.COM – and sites there are not necessarily the same as self-hosted WordPress sites.

    Thank you kindly, WPyogi,

The instructions there are much clearer. One question, when defining a menu, do the “menu settings” buttons affect anything?

    Appreciating your help!

OK, I got no response, so I’m trying again. My site is inandaroundtheword.com. Fashionista theme. I need help with adding a drop-down menu, if that’s the right term, to the PUB101 page. Anyone?

A link to your site would be helpful. Drop down menus are built into WP – and I’m guessing are part of this theme – as pretty much every theme has that functionality. What happens when you set up a custom menu and add items to it?

Oh sorry, found your site – that looks strange indeed. Did you modify anything in any code? And how did you set up the menus?

Do you have any plugins active? If so, try deactivating them.

Thanks for responding, but I had provided a link. inandaroundtheword.com
It doesn’t show up when you search for it though. To answer your question, I’m not able to add items to it because nothing happens when I follow the steps here: http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Menu_User_Guide

Hmm, that seems odd. Can you try switching to a default theme (twentyfifteen) just to see if it works there for you?

And do you have any plugins active? Try deactivating them.

BTW, I’m about to get off for the night – but if no one else picks this up, I’ll check back in the am. (Sorry but it’s late here…)

Ok, I’ve deactivated all plug-ins. What I modified in the code was changing the font in the header from upper to lower case. I created menus by “adding” new pages.

Where did you modify the code?

You should make a child theme if you want to modify theme files.
