• First off, THANK YOU for taking up this plugin and keeping it going, I appreciate it!

Your plugin (and the old one) work great when I use quick redirects for non-existent pages, however, when I try to redirect a pre-existing page, I can’t get it to redirect at all.

I created a new page, put “Redirecting” in the content, selected “Make redirect active” and put the forwarding url, then made sure to make it a “Meta Redirect” with 1 second. I published it and tested it out..

The browser shows nothing but white, completely blank, nothing loads and nothing redirects. I go into the plugin’s meta settings and check “Load Page Content?”, it then loads the site but still doesn’t redirect. If I remove all redirect settings within the page then everything loads as normal.

I went back into meta settings and changed “body” to “redirectpage” and created a new CSS class in my css that just turns the text bold. Wrapped that tag within a span tag around “Redirecting” in the content, but it still doesn’t redirect.

    Thoughts?

Second issue is for some reason your plugin (and the old one) are ignoring one quick redirect I have set up. It just happened to be the first one I tested out after switching to your plugin, but I get a 404 error. I went into the settings and it’s entered correctly. I deleted it and re-entered it and tried again, same problem. Don’t have a problem with any other redirect from what I can tell. This is for a link that is no longer valid, so there is no post or page for it.

    Help?
    Thanks!
    E

Oops, just realized I didn’t include that, my bad, but actually it is on Redirect Options. πŸ™‚

Esch, how savvy are you with PHP stuff? If I link you to a text file, do you think you can rename it and upload it over your existing one?

    I’m doing a band-aid solution for meta redirects only…

    (@esch)

@bearlydoug, savvy enough to do that, yes. Tell me where to go and what to name it. πŸ™‚

Grab that and replace the current PHP file (same name, but .php) with that… clear your site caches, turn off loading JQury, and page loading under meta options. Then test, please.

@bearlydoug, I assume I also need to deactivate the plugin before doing this?

No, you should be able to just replace the file itself. (That’s all I did with my own testing)

@bearlydoug, Ah ok, well I deactivated it just to be on the safe side and replaced what was there. No change in results, however. :/

Did you turn off loading of the page under the Meta options?

@bearlydoug, oh sorry, I misunderstood that bit of your instructions, so just went in and turned it off. I cleared cache and reloaded. It does work now, but it seems to have this slight pause when loading the redirected page. (meta settings is at 0 seconds)

The thing I’ve noticed about actual <meta> refreshes is that it seems to be dependent on the individual’s browser window. I do appreciate you testing this…

There is a javascript issue that needs to be addressed… it’s between jquery.min (3.2.1) and the meta redirect javascript, so we’ll have to do some additional testing there.

Oh, and just a heads up: My fix does NOT load Google Analytics. It’s an absolute straight meta refresh/redirect, without any bells and whistles.

I’m going to have to chew on this change for a day or two before I decide to do it as a temporary workaround until we figure out the jquery issue.

@bearlydoug, I appreciate all the help with this. Yeah, I did a test before your post and found Analytics wasn’t recording, but I think I might have a workaround using a query string on the end of the redirected url. I will test this and see if that works. Then at least on G.A. it will separate that link from everything else.

Thanks for working with me on this today. I needed this to work by Thursday so we’re good. Hope your chewing results in something productive. πŸ˜€
