Support » Fixing WordPress » Help with media library on S3 bucket

  • Hi, not sure it’s the right place to post. Thanks by advance to move the post if not.

I’m looking for a way to have ONE media library on an S3 bucket shared by TWO independant websites (not a multisites install).

All plugins I found auto create sub-folder by website on the S3 bucket, which is not at all what I’m looking for.

Any help or advice would be very welcome.

    Regards,

    Eric

  • I wonder how two copies of a plugin might work together to accomplish the same thing across two sites…

If the item is there on the S3 bucket then is it available to both systems?

I gave a look at WP Offload Media but, from reading about it only, I can’t tell…

I’ve been wanting something similar to use on the IPFS (Interplanetary File System) instead of S3 but haven’t the time to dig into that yet. I do store images (mostly book cover images right now) for one of my sites there but I’m still not sure of the consistency of the results.

My thoughts were something like a plugin to store the WordPress Media Library System files (images) over on the IPFS and a slight adaptation to that might be to retrieve images already stored there. Extending that concept to S3, some other host, or a CDN shouldn’t be all that difficult.

Maybe you could look into a plugin to do that with your site and then the other site. Then cajole the author into extending it further to cover your needs… Else, you might build the parts you can and find a dev willing to build the rest for a fee.
