Support » Fixing WordPress » Help with htaccess file and/or wp-config file

  • I have installed a new site at but when I put that into the browser I get an error saying the site is still under construction. However if I put ‘ it opens on the home page.
Now here is the issue: I have installed all the wordpress files directly into the root and have not made a wordpress directory. I read somewhere this was a better thing to do. So I am assuming that I either have a problem with my htaccess file or wp-config.php. I have not been building sites for a while so have forgotten a few things. Any help would be appreciated. I want my visitors to simply go the the ‘’ url without the /wordpress

  • If when you installed WordPress, you put the top level folder ‘wordpress’ directly into the directory, then that is where your wordpress install is going to be located.

    You have two easy options.

    1) Setup a redirect on the root directory to point to the wordpress sub directory

    2) Reinstall WordPress into the root directory from below the wordpress folder. So you install everything inside the ‘wordpress’ folder when you download wordpress, the three sub folders and all the pages, directly into the root directory, and start over
