# Help with editing index.php

 * This is probably going to sound like a really stupid question but I am new to
   editing themes etc and I want to edit my index.php so the front page doesn’t 
   show certain categories but my index.php only has lines like this:
 * vti_encoding:SR|utf8-nl
    vti_timelastmodified:TR|04 Jan 2010 20:36:48 -0000 vti_timecreated:
   TR|04 Jan 2010 20:36:48 -0000 vti_cacheddtm:TX|04 Jan 2010 20:36:48 -0000 vti_filesize:
   IR|1544 vti_extenderversion:SR|5.0.2.4803 vti_backlinkinfo:VX|
 * How do I modify the code for the page when it is like this?

 * Are you sure that you are looking at the WordPress theme’s index.php? Those ‘
   vti_’ prefixes indicate Frontpage. I’ve never seen that in a WP theme.

 * I just downloaded that theme, opened it and grep-ed the whole directory– not 
   a single ‘vti_’ in the whole thing. Something in your install is different. So
   are you sure you are looking at the files in `/wp-content/themes/SleepingDogs`?
   Who set this up for you and how was it done? Somehow some FrontPage junk has 
   gotten in there. If you scroll down, is there anything beneath those ‘vti_’ lines?

 * Using the editor inside WordPress every one of the php files has those vti_ things
   in them.
 * I’ve just opened the index.php on my own PC and can see all the code.
 * So I guess I have to use an editor on my own PC to make changes then upload the
   files?
 * Why would the editor on WordPress be showing it like that?
    Any idea?

 * The only thing I can think of is that someone at some point installed some FrontPage
   junk in your web space. Possibly your host did it.
 * You are better off editing offline and then uploading.
