    Hi everyone

I’m utterly new to WordPress but it’s installed well and I’m raring to go.

What I want to know is this: I am designing my own site in HTML and want to power it using WordPress.

Is this easy to do? I’m confused over the whole ‘upload your own template’ thing – does this mean I upload my own HTML page and that’ll do it?

Sorry if this sounds completely dumb, but I am trying to get to grips with it and any help would be appreciated.

In a nutshell: how to I integrate my own site design with WordPress?

  • I wrote this article, it might help you out 🙂 -> http://theundersigned.net/2006/05/from-xhtmlcss-to-wordpress/

That’s funny I wrote a similar article two days ago:

    Convert XHTML/CSS To WordPress

    Yea i saw that 🙂

Fantastic, thanks very much people. I got really into it last night but then it got late and I had to sleep!!

Back at it tonight. I thought the best thing to do would be to build my site design first of all, and then follow the steps on your pages.

It’s gonna take a little time but I’ll keep going. No doubt I’ll have “issues” but I’ll definitely be asking for more help!! 🙂

    I’m having a nightmare with CSS 🙁

Normally I don’t use it for the layout, only for fonts, and trying to get my head around it is causing me stress already! Is it necessary to have a complete CSS built layout to be able to integrate WordPress? I really feel like giving up with it already 🙁

I have my site, built in HTML, but now I am trying to re-build the same site using CSS, if that makes sense? I don’t really know what I’m doing…. *sigh*

You can build it with inline styling, but I prefer to split markup and style up..

See, the terms ‘inline styling’, ‘split markup and style up’ just confuse me even more.

I hand code my HTML, what more does a boy have to do?! lol

The codex gives you a wealth of info in pretty easy to understand terms on theme development. Also, search it for whatever – it’s really well documented.

With the old ASP content management I used to use, it worked like this:

I had my HTML page. I added the relevant ASP code into the page where I wanted the posts displayed etc. Then saved it as index.asp, for example.

I wish it was that simple with WordPress. I will get there in the end, though.

Using CSS is your best bet. It will benefit your site tremendously in the long run. Start searching for some basic tutorials or even go to the bookstore. I would recommend Stylin With CSS by Wyke-Smith.
