you cant do that. you need to use mod_rewrite to rewrite the permalinks — NOT add ?q= to anything
oh, and this inst urgent, btw. your house on fire is urgent. a fricken web page is not so urgent.
Thank you for your suggestion. do you mean I can’t add question mark even I use mod_rewrite manually?
stating as urgent means it is urgent for me, I have to fix this on 10 website within the next 3 hours.
thank you.
no I said that you dont want to make wordpress use the ?
you can turn this:
domain.com/content/article-name
into this
domain.com/?q=content/article-name
rather easily using mod_rewrite.
Keep in mind that youre actually doing the opposite of what most people desire.
Were it me, I would use the permalink structure /content/$postname (or whatever that last option is).
so you end up with http://www.blah.com/content/postname
then you just need to add the ? during mod_rewrite.
Keep in mind also, that any of those custom mod_rewrite rules will need to be BEFORE the regular wordpress stuff in any .htaccess
thanks for your help.
But neither this:
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]
nor this works
RewriteRule index.php?q=$1 ^(.*)$ [L,QSA]
What do u suggest now ?
thanks
@whooami
Well, I am in the same problem too.
Where to add (?) during mod_rewrite.
Can u please tell the complete syntax. Thanks a bunch in Advance.
And also kindly advice what custom permalink structure to use for
domain.com/?q=content/post-name
Thanks again.
you both are trying to do the exact same thing???? given what the OP wants to do, thats really unusual.
@whooami,
thanks for your help, we both are working on the same project.
we tried what you suggested but it didn’t work.
if you can provide more information about it, I will appreciate.
thanks again.
what are your current wordpress permalinks — give me an example url
what do you want to change that to — give me an example.
and since this is working as (I think) your described wanting early this morning..
http://www.bassfishingdiscovery.com/q=content/weather-and-bass-fishing/
isnt that what you wanted?? its hella ugly.
your MUCH better off turning your ugly joomla links into pretty wordpress links.
the only difference is the question mark before q=content
well, that is the requirement becoz its indexed in google already.
if that is doable, I will appreciate your help.
thanks
ok, but google can reindex content. which do you want to do? the other is MUCH simpler.
