  • Can you get in via FTP and rename the functions.php of the child theme you were working on (like functions.php.bad) or even download and then delete the child theme off the server. WP will reset to the default theme if you remove the folder of the active theme.

I honestly don’t know anything about FTPs so I had to search it, which led me to a WP page telling me to download FileZilla. Unfortunately, it won’t open when I download it because it says it’s incomplete.

Side Note: I saved the code from the “functions.php” section before I started editing anything. Would it be possible for me to change it back to that remotely if I get an FTP to work?

I also recently installed a few plugins before the error occurred. My research has been telling me that this is how my problems could be caused. However, I downloaded phpMyAdmin and I have no idea how to get around it to deactivate the plugins.

Here you go – sounds like you may need to deactivate the theme and plugins to get access back.

If it happened right after editing the functions file, that’s more likely the problem.

I don’t understand any of this. I’ve, so far, downloaded WordPress 3.5, phpMyAdmin 3.5.5, PHP 5.4.11, and My SQL 5.5.29. Each I downloaded based on being told by somewhere on a previous thread or the “requirements” for one of the apps themselves.

However, all I’m getting are folders full of files or other folders that I don’t understand. And I could very easily rename anything that’s in them or make the changes needed but they’re just not logged in/hooked up/synced with anything so I know it won’t make a difference.

I’m sorry, I know this must be frustrating. I’m just trying to get this site working again and everything I’m reading is just confusing me more.

Okay, wait a second – where is your site hosted? You do need to have access to your site via FTP or your hosts file management system. Check with them and see what they have or recommend.

You don’t need to download any apps (except maybe Filezilla which is an FTP client for your local computer – but wait on that until you check on the above).
