• Hi there! I’m currently working on a friends website which is in serious need of some updating. It’s currently running on an old version of wordpress. I installed a plugin to back up the website before I update it, and when I went to activate the plugin the site went down, meaning it now says “Fatal error: Call to undefined function get_temp_dir() in /home2/vbush/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wp-db-backup/wp-db-backup.php on line 112“.

I’ve looked up this “fatal error” on other forums and they all say things to do, but the issue is that I can’t even access the /wp-admin link to go on WordPress and change what needs to be changed since the website is completely down.

Thank you so much in advance for any help!!

  • You need to access your FTP and deactivate the plugin manually by renaming the plugins folder. You can find the folder in wp-content/plugins/ .

Thank you! That makes sense. I just need to figure out how to access my FTP server… the website is through Host Gator. Do I need to download something like FileZilla or can I change the plugin folder name through my internet browser?

You can probably do either. It looks like HostGator has a built in file manager. While you’ll have more control (and possibly greater ease, as these built in file managers can feel clunky) with an FTP client like FileZilla, if this is all you’ll be doing with it, it’s probably quicker to use HG’s built in file manager. Here’s some info about how to get started with it: http://support.hostgator.com/articles/hosting-guide/lets-get-started/file-manager-getting-started

    Hope that helps!

Perfect…that worked great! I deleted the plugin that was causing the issue and am all good now.

Again, thank you! I have pretty limited WordPress skills but wanted to be able to get the site back up ASAP.

    Cheers!

    Great news!
