Help, Site not loading?

  • soulrider911

SO I have the newest version of wordpress installed at my host (1and1), and I renamed the “wordpress” folder to “portfolio.” Its all good to go, got all my content in etc…when i type in my url:bradysammons.com/portfolio…all loads fine.

Now All i wanted to do was define the “portfolio” folder as the root directory for my site… so when you type: brady sammons.com it loads, instead of bradysammons.com/portfolio.

However when I do that the site breaks??? It must be a mis-communication with the DB or something. I have done this numerous times with static html sites??? please help, i really dont want to un-install and re-install everything all over again 🙁

Hosting companies in most cases will give you an option to install WordPress in root directory and/or example.com/wordpress just like you have right now. You can also take a look at this http://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory

that problem is probably that when you designate /portfolio as the root directory, WordPress is still looking for the install in the /portfolio folder. Undo the root folder designation and follow the instructions for moving WordPress – http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress to “move” it to the root folder. Than you should be able to redo the root folder designation with your host. Or just actually move it to the root folder.

From what you said, I think that will fix it.

if you want your wordpress files and folders in portfolio directory and you site to be domain name then you need copy index.php file in root and edit line 17
and change the urls in Settings general
    wordpress url http://domainname.com/portfoio
    site url http://domainname.com
