Help setting up a miniblog? (6 posts)

I did some searching on the topic but was only able to come up with one thread (http://wordpress.org/support/topic.php?id=7656) that doesn't seem to contain any actual information.

I'd like to setup one -- possibly two -- miniblogs on my site for music and short pieces about interesting articles elsewhere. Is there a plugin for this? Or is there a relatively easy way to hack the code into my theme, maybe by just checking which category a given post is in and displaying or not displaying it accordingly?

This later option seems like an obvious solution to me but I can't figure out how to make sure the proper number of posts show up in each section on the page as, from what I can tell, the total number of posts pulled in by the posts loop is set in the admin and that would be divided up among all the posts displayed, whether in the miniblog or elsewhere.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The site above has a wp-plugin for mini blogs. You could try that

It looks like his link blog in the sidebar of the site is exactly what I'm going for. Problem is, for the life of me, I can't find either a plugin or info on how he did it anywhere on the site. A google search limited to his site doesn't turn up anything. Do you have a direct link?

He's using the category "linklog" within the same install of WP, then displaying that caetgory differently than the others via a plugin like this one (is my guess).

If you want to do it from a scratch

Exclude a category of the miniblog posts using the following plugin: http://dev.wp-plugins.org/file/front-page-cats/trunk/front_page_cats.php

And then call another loop to display all post of category miniblog using the advancad use of loop technique: http://codex.wordpress.org/The_Loop#Advanced_Use
The one you want to use is the third example under Advanced Use heading.

Post back if you need help implementing all this
