Support » Fixing WordPress » Help please with Spanish characters

  • Hello all,
I’ve incorporated what I feel are the most important features into a weblog I help administer. I cannot seem to locate where the special Spanish character formatting is messed up.
Please take a look at to see my problem(s).
If you don’t speak or read Spanish well (like me) you still should be able to see that the ‘~’ isn’t formatted properly over the ‘n’ in the word ‘Año’. There are other problems like accents that are improperly formatted as well. I’m sure that when I fix one of these issues the others will fall in line.
    Thanks for your help,

  • Why did you change the charset=utf-8 to charset=iso-8859-1?

Lo que dijo moshu debería solucionarlo. ¡Un saludo!

Well, bepo, you did change the charset… or someone else did it for you 🙂 I looked into the source, that’s why I asked. WP comes with the default utf-8. And yes, the correct charset should “straighten out” the characters.
The beauty of the utf-8 is that you don’t have to worry in which language the posts are or will be. On the same page you can use the Latin (Western and Central European), the Greek, the Cyrillic alphabet and they all will be displayed correctly. For me it was one of the main reasons chosing WP and not other blog script!

Actually, I didn’t change the charset.
I just recently did it after your post.
I see, it was a meta tag hard coded into the page. I’ll remove it and replace it with the tag from the default index.php.
    That might just do it.
    Thanks again,

Now I have to go back and re-edit the database, because now I get those funny characters.
A little bit of knowledge is dangerous for me!
