[Resolved] Help Needed With Creating A Child Theme With Twenty Twelve

    When I create the child style.css file and add some code to test it (Like changing the title color, change the font-style) nothing happens. It seems that my blog is not acknowledging the new style.css. Yet, I was able to activate the child theme inside of WordPress.

    This is what my style.css looks like:
    Theme Name: Blog Name Theme
    Theme URI: http://website.com/
    Description: Child theme for the Twenty Twelve
    Author: Author
    Author URI: http://website.com/
    Template: twentytwelve
    Version: 0.1.0
    */

    @import url(“../twentytwelve/style.css”);

    I have read that and followed it step-by-step. Still no luck.

    Try activating twenty twelve, and then activating your child theme. See if it works.

    @samer Sultan, Nothing. I know this must be a rookie mistake. I’ve read older forum posts about this topic on this website and they didn’t help my situation. I don’t understand how it can be picking it up in WordPress and not actually affecting the theme. Even if I add no style and just leave the description info (and remove the “@import”) it doesn’t change a thing. If I’m understanding the way child themes work, shouldn’t that remove all the styling?

    Try adding the opening /*

    I actually have the “/*” in the .css file I just accidentally cut it out when I was pasting it on here.

    Can you post a link to your site?

    What code have you added to the child stylesheet? Does it show up using Firebug to look at the CSS code (Firebug shows all code — even if it’s being overridden by other CSS code)?

    My Blog

    The Tutorial I’m following

    While following that tutorial I have replaced everything that says, “twentyeleven” with “twentytwelve”. I’ve tried to add some styling to the site-title (same as in the tutorial). This is my first WordPress blog and my first attempt at a child theme so I haven’t done anything major to the blog. I could not locate any child css styling with Firebug or Chrome developer tools. ( I may be overlooking it though, but I doubt it)

    Twenty Twelve uses different css selectors than Twenty Eleven;

    for instance the site title now has the css class .site-title (was a css id #site-title in Twenty Eleven);
    there is no css id #branding, etc.

    I could not locate any child css styling with Firebug or Chrome developer tools.

    try to use these tools to investigate the css selectors of the theme.

    or look into the html code of your site in the browser – browser tool bar ‘view’ – ‘View Source’ or similar …

    it might help if you work through a css tutorial; for instance http://www.w3schools.com/css/

    Try http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/one-click-child-theme/ to get you started.

    Worked great for me.

    @ alchymyth, Thanks for that information. And I do need to brush up on my css!
    @ Herbert-Jan van Dinther, THANK YOU! Worked great for me too!
