I was playing with my header template this morning (running WP classic template), suddenly my blog has disintegrated! Just a title and most recent post.

What happened? I restored the header template but it’s still all jacked up. Need help.

    Sidebar’s gone. Everything’s gone.

  • This problem occured for me this morning as well… except that I was tinkering around with my CSS. Now the homepage loads, but part of my content is missing, and when I click a post or page link, I get a totally empty page (firefox) or an error (IE). When I switch to another theme, everything seems to load fine.

This also happened to me a couple weeks ago while working on a different theme. I even went so far as to delete and completely reinstall that theme, and never did get my content to show up again with that theme selected. I finally abandoned it and started over.

This is apparently theme related, but I fail to see the problem anywhere. I went through and validated my core pages (header, index, footer, etc) to be sure I hadn’t somehow deleted a closing tag somewhere, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. This is incredibly frustrating. Anyone have ideas on a solution or experiencing a similar situation?

feisty, I tried loading a new theme and that didn’t work either. just shows the title and most recent post. i’m new to wordpress and blogging. really discouraging to say the least.

when tinkering with your theme or CSS…

Check your blog after each change.

That way you can isolate problems to the most recent thing you changed.

and always keep a backup of the file when it’s working before you change it

To add to the drama, certain themes display my sidebar, others don’t. None of them display posts past the most recent.

I just restored to the default WP Default 1.5 theme and I still get nothing. Can one of the moderators chime in and let me know if you’re having theme problems?

No, I’m not having theme problems.

Then again, only you are the one running themes from your server.

And, it looks like you got something working.

Remeber, after each change to theme or css, refresh your browser. Clear its cache or do a hard refresh (typically ctrl-F5) to be sure you’re seeing non-cached stuff.

Just browsing through some of the other threads on trouble-shooting, I found a suggestion that plugins can sometimes be the culprit. So I disabled all but two of the plugins I’d been using (akismet and wp database backup), and sure enough my post content appeared again, but nothing on my Pages. Now, the Pages will load with the header content in place, but no text or footer. This seems very odd to me – like it should be all or nothing.

Good point on checking changes every time… and I am in the habit of doing that, hence my surprise to see such random buggyness… is that a word? 😉 I can’t think of anything I’ve done this morning that would’ve thrown such a wrench in things. For example, two of three sections that display in my footer were missing, and I hadn’t even been working on that section of my style sheet or the footer.php page.

I don’t even know where to begin debugging the Pages rendering problem because it seems to have no clear cause.
