[resolved] Help, my blog is all blank (not covered in previous support). (25 posts)

    http://www.imagiscape.ca/blog/ - home page, admin home, all subsections - all blank.

    I tried Firebug and Web Developer (Firefox add-ons) (I'm not able to get meaningful info from them for this - can you?).

    I verified via browsershots.org that this problem occurs on all browsers.

    http://www.imagiscape.ca and other sections (e.g. http://www.imagiscape.ca/wiki) work fine.

    I can access the blog via FTP.

    I did not add any plugins, or change any plugin settings.

    My server is a Linux-Apache-MySQL-PHP system.

    I have not found the answer in existing WordPress Support posts, even though I read:

    Help, my blog is blank.. as in about:blank!

    [resolved] Blank Screen

    [resolved] Blank Page

    Blank admin page - moved blog.

    Blank pages

    Blank home page

    Wednesday night my host moved my site to a new server, but it was fine when I worked on it on Thursday and Friday and Saturday morning.

    The host says they did not make any changes after migrating the site to the new server (it worked for 3 days after the migration), so it's not caused by them, they say.

    blank pages happen a lot when the theme gets messed up.
    Though I didn't read all the examples you listed, have you tried removing your existing theme folder (renaming might work too). I know if you remove your theme folder it will default to the "default" theme.

    That's assuming it is a theme problem.
    May be worth a shot.

    In response to brockangelo, I moved the existing theme's folder (even though I had not made recent theme changes), but it made no difference.
    Thanks anyway for the suggestion.

    Hm - this is probably over my head then. I guess it is possible that your database is still pointing to a location on the old server. They may have copied your database to the new server, then waited a few days to delete the old. If so, that would explain it.

    By old location I mean something like:

    as seen in wp_options

    In cPanel's MySQL section, I "checked" the wrdp1 database - all tables were OK, but several had warnings of being either in use or not properly closed previously. I clicked repair, and now all are OK, with no warnings. But the problem remains.

    I checked the ERROR LOG:

    PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 12582912 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 582046 bytes) in /home/imageca/public_html/blog/wp-includes/cache.php on line 48

    In another support topic, someone suggested increasing the PHP memory size from 8MB to 16MB. (Another said 8MB was ample.) Here the memory size is 12 MB and only requires 0.5 MB.

    Can I DELETE cache.php?

    No, I can't. I renamed wp-includes/cache.php, and got an error message on my home page (hey, that's better than blank?), so I undid the renaming.

    The error log says the error occurs in:
    wp-includes/cache.php on line 48

    (This same PHP error is repeated many times - it occupies all of today's Error Log.)

    Line 48 reads:
    $data = unserialize(serialize($data));

    It is part of this sequence:

    function wp_cache_set($key, $data, $flag = '', $expire = 0) {
    	global $wp_object_cache;
    	$data = unserialize(serialize($data));
    	return $wp_object_cache->set($key, $data, $flag, $expire);
    define('CACHE_SERIAL_HEADER', "<?php\n/*");
    define('CACHE_SERIAL_FOOTER', "*/\n?".">");

    The file wp-includes\cache.php has not been changed.
    Last modified date (presumably by the WP 2.3 team) is August 13. (It's now October 14.)

    1. Rename wp-includes\cache.php (to anything)
    2. Reload the homepage (getting an error message: missing cache.php)
    3. Restore the original name of cache.php.

    Reload - and rejoice! (Amidst mystery.)

    I suppose this is resolved, but

    I wonder why the problem occurred in the first place, and if something needs to be done so others don't have this problem.

    Just to add a data point...I just had the exact same problem and the exact same thing "fixed" it: rename the cache.php, refresh front page (get error), name cache.php back to original name, reload...voila.

    I don't think I was doing anything that would've mucked with anything major...just was changing around some tags on posts and...boom. Blog gone. Quasi heart-attack.

    did not work for me :(

    changed the name of cache.php to something else

    got the error

    Warning: main(/org/www/domains/dev.goldworld.it/wp-includes/cache.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /org/www/domains/dev.goldworld.it/wp-settings.php on line 157
    Fatal error: main() [function.require]: Failed opening required '/org/www/domains/dev.goldworld.it/wp-includes/cache.php' (include_path='.:/usr/share/php:/usr/share/pear') in /org/www/domains/dev.goldworld.it/wp-settings.php on line 157

    changed back to cache.php

    (fresh wordpress 2.3.2)

    could this be a database problem?

    I'm using a copy of the database from the live version of the website

    which is wp2.2

    update_ I've changed the prefix in the wp_config file and I was given the same... that should have prompted me with a fresh installation (those tables don't exist), shouldn't it?
    Did the rename trick and still no joy :(

    fabbio, did you ever get this issue solved?

  15. jenba72
    Posted 8 years ago #

    I'm having the same issue, with the same results as Fabbio. Renaming the cache.php gives me an error, but renaming it back gives me the blank blog again. I can't load my wp-login page. Tried to upgrade to the latest version of WP, but the upgrade.php page won't load, either. Everything is just plain BLANK.

    Other subsections of my site work fine (http://jenba.net/gnomesby and http://jenba.net/simscribes) so I'm not sure what the problem is. I can access the site via FTP just fine.

    Before I attempted the WP upgrade, I hadn't touched any files in that folder for months. So I hadn't made any recent changes. Anyone have any ideas?? I'm at a loss.

    Same problem with my sites for homepage.

    Is this a flaw in WP 2.6?.

  17. zeroday
    Posted 8 years ago #

    Edit: Seems the problem was related to me not noticing that wp-config now has more secret stuff that needs to be added. It worked fine after adding the stuff.

    I have the same problem with 2.6. Originally I thought my upgrade went wrong, but I wget-ted the tar package of WP to my server, and tried to access a freshly unpackaged version of WP. Same issue.

    If I rename cache.php, I get a php error, otherwise, it's just a blank page.

    My site has just gone blank in the past 3 hours also!

    Updated to WP 2.6 the day it came out.

    My main WP install is below and is currently blank.

    My second install of WP is here and works fine.

    I have never seen this problem ever while using WP. Have not changed hosts or server for a year either.

    My same WP install went blank yesterday. replaced all WP files except for wp-content and wp-config. Fixed the problem for a day ti'll it went blank not long ago. No files were changed in that time.

    Hope I don't need to reinstall my WP files just to get my site working every day?

    I am having the same problem (entire site has gone blank in the past few hours). Well the site is there, but all the posts and pages are gone. HELP!

    More info:

    I upgraded to the latest version a few days ago, everything was fine though the Bad Behavior plugin was now causing errors, so I disabled it. Everything worked fine after that.

    I have not made any other changes. Today, I can see the blog and it's theme, but all of the content (posts and pages) are gone. In my admin area the post and everything are also gone... I had a hundreds of published posts... where have they all gone? All of the categories and comments are still there, thought the comments no longer show which page they were originally posted to. Disableing all the plugins does not fix the problen.

    What's happened here and more importantly how do I fix it? When I did the upgrade it was with the automatic upgrade plugin, so I have the backups that were created during that process.

    If I back up from those files will everything be restored (with correct comments in the right posts, etc?). I've never had anything like this happen before... how awful! Any help would be much appreciate, please help save my blog!

    Posted 8 years ago #

    It's not letting me create new posts either. I create one, publish... then it takes me to the manage posts page where there are no posts listed. I'm ready to cry...

  22. anathema23
    Posted 8 years ago #

    It gets even better... now that I've looked at the "backups" that were downloaded when I did the automatic upgrade and I see that they are just empty zip files. Meaning, I have no backups of any of my content at the moment... the over two years worth of writing I've done on my blog that has all mysteriously disappeared this morning for not apparent reason.

    Any ideas? I see I'm not the only one experiencing this and I hope to god there's a solution coming soon!

    Just replaced all my WP files except for wp-content and wp-config. Site is working again... What would be causing this problem?

    I think it's related to WP 26...?

  24. anathema23
    Posted 8 years ago #

    I just followed your lead and replaced all the files but it hasn't made any difference :(

  25. anathema23
    Posted 8 years ago #

    Ok, my problem is fixed for now.

    I went into phpmyadmin and saw that "wp_posts" was listed as crashed and needing repair. Thankfully I found in "MySQL Account Maintenance" (available from cpanel) a button that said "repair". Not really understanding much about how MySQL or the database works, I took a chance and clicked the button. This fixed it and the site is now back to normal... yahoo!

    I have no idea what broke it in the first place or how to avoiding this happening again but at least I'm very relived that my site is back :)
