Help me brainstorm a way to sort the items in featured areas? (3 posts)

    Here is the setup:

I have a CPT Projects, and a taxonomy of Featured Areas.

Each project has a slideshow. I'm using an ACF repeater to set the slides on each project page. It works awesome, by the way!

Throughout the site, there are different sliders and "featured areas" where I am showing the first item in the project's slideshow.

To set these projects to be featured on the various places on the website, you tick the box in the Featured taxonomy. There's about 5 boxes for the various featured areas on the site. Ticking the box automagically makes the project show up in those place.

It works well, it's easy to use and intuitive and fast.
EXCEPT I forgot about "what if you want to rearrange the order these projects are listed in those featured areas?"

    Good question.

I have a few ideas but want to see if anyone has a better idea. Anyone have any thoughts on how I could achieve this?

If I understand your description properly (got a link to a demo?), I would place a "Customize" link on each featured area. The link would open a popup window with a boxed list of the current posts in the current order. I'm sure there's some jQuery plugin that allows this list of tokens to be reordered via drag and drop. "Sortable" perhaps?

The selected order could be saved in a cookie so that it persists between visits. If I saw what you're up to, I might have a different thought on this.

Sorry, unfortunately I dont have a link to the demo, it's on our private beta. I really like your idea though - I hadn't considered a popup. My idea was similar to yours, but I was struggling a lot with where it would live - the popup is a great solution to that. I am not sure this type of customization is something I am experienced enough to create but I am going to take a stab at it. :) I will follow up with what I end up with. Thanks again!
