  • Hello there,
    I have abbandoned my books page for a while and I want to revamp it adding more books and using it efficiently.
    But I cannot for the life of me, figure out how to use the grids and I have other questions. I really hope you can help me.
    >the first question is what’s the difference between adding one grid or just adding the book on the main page?
    >Can I create a menu with the categories on the main page?
    >I would like to eliminate the title that goes above each book, it looks very bad. But if I don’t write the title, when I go on the book page, there is no title on the page and I don’t like it. https://www.boundlessroads.com/book/5299/
    > is it possible to change the url for each book with the title of the book instead of the number?

    thank you so much for your help
    cheers

    1. I am not sure I am following your question. I’m not sure what you mean by “just adding the book on the main page”? Book grids allow you to show a selection (or all) of your books on one page.

    2. Again, not sure what you mean. Do you want a menu of book genres? You can choose genres to display in your menu on the Appearance->Menu screen.

    3. Do you mean the title on book grid? You need to give each book a title for it to display on the book page. To hide it from the book grid you can use custom css code such as this:

    span.mbdb_grid_title {
        display: none;
    }

    To use custom css code, go to Appearance->Customize and scroll down to Additional CSS. Paste in that code exactly.

    4. The reason you have a number in the url is because you didn’t give the book a title. The url is generated from the title.

    Hello!
    thanks a lot for your replies.

    I have fixed the title with the code you gave me and that’s great
    But now I am seeing the book list duplicated on the same page. https://www.boundlessroads.com/books/
    Why do you think it is?

    About the grids, I understand now. So what are multiple grids for.
    I have one grid for all books. Why would I need different grids? this is not clear.

    The other main question about the book menu. It’s difficult to explain. I try again.
    So when you click on a book page (example https://www.boundlessroads.com/book/born-for-this) , you see at the bottom that you have the genre and tags where you can click on it and you would have a selection of books displayed that have been categorized under that genre. Now I would like to have a menu on the main page of the book grid, with all those categorizations so that readers can directly go on the category they want. Is it possible?

    Then another question. In the retailer setting, I am asked to insert the affiliation code. but that would be a general one. Is not enough to include the appropriate link to each book page setting? in the sidebar?

    thanks a lot again
    cheers

    I’m guessing you have two book grid shortcodes on your books page.

    You may not need multiple grids for your site, depending what you want to do. Some authors like to have a book grid of just their upcoming, not yet published books. Some authors write under two pen names and want a book grid for each one. There are other reasons. It all depends what you need for your site.

    As to menus…. if your theme allows you to put a menu on the side of a page, you could add a menu to do that. If your theme doesn’t, maybe you could find a plugin to do it? I’m not sure. Mooberry Book Manager doesn’t handle menus.

    With your affiliate links questions, I’m not sure what you are asking. When you are an amazon affiliate, for example, you will have one specific piece of text that you have to put in ALL of your links in order to be counted as an affiliate. It is the same text regardless of the item on Amazon’s site that you are linking to. So you would put that text in once for the Amazon retailer and then every amazon link on any book pages would include that affiliate text so that you get credit.

    I am not sure what you mean about the sidebar?

    Hey there!
    thanks a lot
    No, I checked and I have only one code. that’s so weird.

    As for the grids I am not an author, I am displaying books that I read and suggest them to my readers.

    thanks

    If you preview the book grid, do the books appear twice?

    If you can screenshot the page’s edit screen and maybe the book grid’s settings page maybe I can see something that would cause it to be duplicated?

    No, and even the back end. it’s fine. just when I look at it in the front end.
    here is the link you can see it yourself https://www.boundlessroads.com/books/

    There really isn’t much more I can do to help without being able to see it myself. Could you create an account for me on your site?
