Support » Fixing WordPress » HELP, I deleted /wordpress in permalinks and site went away

  • Hi,

    I was having this problem:

Hi all, I am new to WP. I set up my site and started to add an ABOUT page. The theme has it tabbed at the top which is great but when you click the menu link the page won’t change.

I believe it has to do with the fact that the home page has /wordpress at the end (http://theedgebaseball.org/wordpress/) but the permalinks to the pages I want to link to do not have that.

Is this the problem? If yes, what is the fix. If no, any ideas what is?

I was trying to fix it so I deleted the /wordpress in the settings>permalinks (I think that is were but I can’t get to admin panel to be sure) thinking that the site would work properly and now the site will not display correctly. I cannot get to the admin panel any more to correct. How can I add the /wordpress back?

No I did not back it up before i did this.

    Jeff

  • Change it back. See Changing_The_Site_URL.

    Hi Jeff,

Sorry you’re having trouble with your site. I researched this a bit, and it looks like something is going on with your .htaccess file. I would recommend making a back up of it and then following the instructions here to delete the contents of your .htaccess file and re-create it:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks#Fixing_Other_Issues

This should at least let you get logged into your dashboard where you can then work on your Permalinks. I would recommend using the default Permalinks setting until you get everything worked out.

Just to double check, did you install WordPress into the document root for theedgebaseball.org or into a subfolder?

    Hope this helps!
