• Greetings WP enthusiasts,
My name is Carol and I own a florist. I’m in the process of creating a website just for my wedding side of the business. Someone offered an idea to me for my site and I thought it was a great idea. Here’s the idea.

On my wedding estimate form we add a new option for my customer. Private access to a couple pages on my new website where they can upload their wedding pictures. We give them a username and password for access to their private page(s) where they have editor privileges to upload their images. They can then give their family and friends some type of username and password so that they may view their wedding pictures online. Screw Facebook.

My question is this. What type of plugin would I need if available to provide this option to my customer? If anyone reading this has any good ideas, I would greatly appreciate any help or advice you may have.

    Thanks in advance,
    Carol in NC

  • Hey Carol,

I noticed no one has answered this yet…..my guess is because this is not an easy question to answer, not with a simple answer anyway.

There are a number of membership-type plugins that will likely do what you want, maybe not 100% but close. However, there’s more to consider.

There are already so many really, really, good online tools for doing the same thing – Facebook is just one of them, regardless of what you think of it, that so many people already use…..that makes it really simple for brides to share their photos with anyone they want to, that doesn’t require their family/friends setting up *yet another* login somewhere.

So if what you’re wanting to do is develop a Facebook/Pinterest/Instagram replacement and then convince people to use it when they already have those other avenues available, you’re looking at a major amount of work, not the least of which is coming up with some angle that makes *your* offering unique enough to convince them to use it.

I’m not trying to discourage you from tackling this, but you’ll want some top-notch developers who can help you develop a plan and budget for this project….someone who knows how to guide you through the process of refining your ideas into an actual workable, marketable product.

That’s not something most of the people who help out by answering questions in this forum are prepared or qualified to do, myself included. Most of the folks who help out here are just looking to help others solve simple problems with WordPress.

Good luck if you decide to pursue this!

Thanks for your interest and honest reply.
With so much bad publicity surrounding all the social sites (Facebook, LinkedIn, and others being in bed with the NSA, recording facial images and other private information, and storing this a huge gov’t dbase, I was just wanting to offer my wedding customers a more private way to post their wedding photos so their family and closest friends would be able to view them. Say for a one year duration. The small extra effort to their family having to use a login, I think is quite reasonable for the extra privacy. But as Michael Savage famously says, “This is just my opinion.”

I’m currently looking at the WordPress eMember plugin. It appears to be just what I need. I will investigate it further though.

But again, I sincerely thank you for your intuitive reply.
