Support » Installing WordPress » Help!! domain name change, can’t log in

  • I recently changed my domain name from to My WP is installed on the former domain and I can’t log in to wp-admin. A blank page comes up. The new domain is on the same server so all the files are already there

    Now, on my web host the path is still pointing to the old domain. What file do i have to change in order for it to point to the new domain?

    Or, is it simpler to reinstall WP on the new domain? If I do that, what files do I need to transfer from the other version?

  • WordPress stores the Domain name as values in the database. There are actually two to change.

    Traditionally, we’d have to go spelunking through the Options table to find and change them (follow the link above).

    However, there’s an easier way introduce in a recent version of WP. We can now override these URL values directly in the wp-config.php file.

    define('WP_SITEURL', '');
    define('WP_HOME', '');

    Hope that helps.

    Thanks. I did the phpadmin, but all I was able to get was the login page and when i logged in, another blank page.

    In the wp-config file, should I use the domain or the blogname domain?

    I should mention that the domain is an add on domain and the tech at my webhost said it should exist as a separate domain not affiliated with the primary domain.

    The good news is the blog is back up, so we’re half way there.

    Thanks again.
