Help! Buddypress Profile Visibility Issue

  • Hi,

I’m working to a really tight deadline for a wordpress multisite using buddypress and I’ve been stuck for days with a buddypress profile visibility problem.

Users profile fields are visible regardless whether you ‘change’ visibility or not (either through the dashboard or frontend). The option to change visibility is present and ‘clickable’ on frontend and wp dashboard but it doesn’t do anything. I really need to resolve this issue!

Any help would be much appreciated!

    Hannah

  • Hello again,
Just to update – it does work!
What doesn’t work is the default visibility setting (set through wp dashboard). You can change the setting once logged in however.
This may be the import plugin I’m using. If anyone can advise that would still be really great.
    Thanks!

Okay, trying for a third time – this IS a problem – it seems the theme does not allow for the default visibility
    see:
“Note that if your theme does not provide the proper markup for users to customize their profile field visibility, fields will default to the admin-provided visibility level, which itself defaults to Public.” (source: http://bpdevel.wordpress.com/2012/03/16/profile-field-visibility-in-bp-1-6/)

Basically, I need the default visibility to be respected, and it’s not, so any xprofile field data I upload via CSV defaults to public. This means that users can’t chose what visibility they want until they’ve logged in – and many people won’t want their information public by default!!!

Please let me know how to fix it!
