Support » Installing WordPress » HELP! 403 Forbidden Error

  • I’ve been searching for an answer to this and haven’t found it. So if it’s here already, sorry.

I just installed WordPress to my hosting acccount – — in a subdirectory –

I followed instructions carefully. In fact, I got the same outcome earlier, deleted everything and started over from scratch. Same result.

When I try to log on to admin – or just go to the index – I get the following page – titled 403 Forbidden

You don’t have permission to access /blog/wp-admin/ on this server.
    Apache/2.2 Server at Port 80

I assume this happens to others. Can anyone tell me how to fix?

  • Hopefully someone can help.

    Additional info:

My install did NOT create .htaccess

I created on manually with the following code…

    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule . /blog/index.php [L]

And uploaded to by /blog directory, then increased permissions to 777.

Still no good. I still get the 403 Forbidden error.

    Anybody got suggestions?

For what it’s worth, I can’t even view the blog.

If I go to or, I get the same 403 Forbidden page.

NOTE: By typing out (and not just I am able to get to the dashboard. I can create posts, pages – but can’t view anything.

When I try to login from wp-login, I get the same 403 error.

I’ve tried playing with .htaccess with all the different variations I’ve seen here. Upped my permission on the file to 777. No good.

    Can anyone help???
