• I have been working with wordpress for about 6 months and everything that I have learned is just from fiddling around, not actual knowledge; so bear with me!

Last night I was installing a new theme to my blog. I deactivated all of my plug-ins, installed and activated the theme, and everything was working fine. I went back to my plugin area of my admin and began to reactivate some of the plugins. I am not sure which one I was activating, but then after I hit activate, it returned a blank white page.

Now everything is blank white pages. I can not get into my admin or dashboard at all. I know that it is probably not on the server end since my photoblog is still working fine.

I tried to go into my Phpadmin (or whatever it is called) and restore, but when I log in, it is also a blank page.

I can access my database files through my yahoo server and it appears to all be in tact. I tried to restore from a backup from last week, page by page and file by file, but still blank pages.

I downloaded an exact copy of every file through my FTP to ensure that I had not lost anything. BUt I don’t have a clue.

My blog is still showing up in the RSS feed, so I am assuming that is a good sign, but if I try to click on links to posts from there, it says that the requested URL was not found.

I am at a loss here and have been researching and tweaking since 10 pm last night now and I am freaking out and just want my blog back.

Also, how do I look at my database to verify that my actual posts are still there. I know that they are saved somewhere within the database system. Where the heck are they? I just want to make sure that I still have my posts.

I have also tried to replace all of the wp-files, no luck.

    AHHHHHHHHH please help.

    The site is http://www.reddephotography.com/blog/
the feed that still is working is feed://reddephotography.com/blog/feed/

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!

    BIG HUGS TO ALL AROUND!!!!

Well, it is boring as can be and I will have to do some work to get it all back up in order and put in some of the old stuff and tweaks and the like! But I have my posts up once again!

Thank you to you all for all of your help! I don’t know what this ding bat would do with out you all!

Now am I horrible to say that I still want to try out that theme and get it working? hmmmm… better make notes of all that I do around here!

    Thank you all again!

Yep, notes AND BACKUPS! But see, now you’ve got it back once you’re better equipped to handle tweaking.

Redundant backups. Believe me. And VERY glad you got it all back, Happy New Year!

The reason I said remove the plugins folder, is if a plugin had a function call in the theme he changed from, to the new theme without the call, it *may* cause problems such as the one described.

If you backed up your site before doing the clean install, you should be able to upload your old theme to the wp-content, your old plugins, and have what you had before the problems.

I would activate each plugin, check the site, step by step.

I’d also download a new version of the theme, before trying it out. Possibly corrupted file could cause issues as well.

I opted out from the theme…. there is something missing, I downloaded it again and tried it on a test blog. All of the files have to be renamed for my host; they have spaces in them and I can’t upload them… Its too much of a pain to try and figure it all out tonight.

I am just glad to have my posts back, now to get all the images back up and to get the lightbox back and running…

And I just went through all of this!

Thank you all for the help… I am sure that I will be back for more! HA

My daughter used that theme for a site for her husband. If you still want to try it later, email me at vkaryl_at_bytehaven*dot*com, and I’ll get a zip from her. She (IIRC) didn’t have any trouble like that with it, so perhaps a zip from her will be “cleaner”.

Thank you so much for your help. I may email you for the theme… But I finally got everything back in order and all my plugins and scripts working again, for the most part that is… My iimage browser uploader is being screwy, but that is just a little bit of a short cut luxury.

Now that I have my old theme back, I like it EVEN more than I did before. Like the saying goes, if it ain’t broke… why the heck did I try and mess around with it?

i would like to see the site with the theme though.. and yours for that matter, you should post a link or two so that I can check it out!

Mine is back to close to fantabulous and my precious trip is still preserved… AND BACKED UP!!!

Thanks again and have a GREAT New Year!

You’re welcome, and the same to you. My main blog is at http://vkaryl.net/pov/ – I have others, but that’s one for which I did a custom theme (before client stuff got so busy I didn’t have time to play any more!) – most of my others are simply “litter boxes” – places to test stuff, and to load things that others need help with.

    One last question.

In my file manager, in the main directory I originally had an index.html file that directed the browser directly to my homepage that is hosted on another server. Now when I loaded it back, it just puts up the code, does not redirect.

I need a workaround so that when someone goes to http://www.reddephotography.com they will be redirected to my .mac homepage.

    Any ideas?

Um. So – first question: you’re self hosting on your mac?

    Thread Starter photorenedde

    (@photorenedde)

no, my photo portfolio is on .mac (apple’s server) and my blog is on yahoo. I had my domain transferred to yahoo from another site, but they won’t allow me to have anything outside of their site as my home page.

So on my yahoo server, which is http://www.reddephotography.com I need an index.html file (i think) that is a redirection to my .mac main page (http://web.mac.com/redde/iWeb/reddephotography/enter.html)

I had just a file in my main directory that had a redirection…..

NEVER MIND… I GOT IT! Thanks again though! My site is back in full force good ‘ol http://www.reddephotography is back in action!

Oh GOOD. Because I have to tell you I was completely lost there….

So have a Happy New Year celebration, and happy blogging!

I’m glad to hear you got it all back, Rene.

vkaryl, I think what was being referenced was an index.html page with a meta-refresh to the rest of the site on the other server; that’d be my guess.
