Support » Plugin: The Events Calendar » Heading structure of widget not accessible

I am trying to use the events widget that lists upcoming events on my home page, but the default heading structure is not accessible.

The widget title is a heading 5 (h5). I need it to be an h2 to make my site accessible for people using screenreaders. To make matters more interesting, the event titles, which fall under the widget title, are all h4s. Which just does not make sense.

Has anyone else run into this?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Oh, and the widget is the “Upcoming events” box in the header on akrogman.com

    Hi @akrogman

    Thanks for reaching out!

You can create a template override of the widget file and change the headings there.

You’ll want to create a template override of the following file:

    the-events-calendar/src/views/widgets/list-widget.php

    I hope that helps!

    Thanks,
    Jaime

    Hi @akrogman

I have talked about this with one of our devs. To give you a bit more insight:

It’s pretty much impossible to set the headings to fit every single site, as each site will be different and may have different heading levels. So your best option for this is to customize the templates to best fit your site, as Jaime suggested.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,
    Andras
