[Resolved] Header words (newbie question) how do you take them off?

  • Look in your header.php for lines similar to these:
    <h1 id="header">
    <a href="<?php bloginfo('url'); ?>"><?php bloginfo('name'); ?></a>
    </h1>

    And comment them out…

    I don’t see it in there.
    if I do find it, do i just delete the <?php bloginfo(‘url’); ?>”> part?

    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

    <head profile="http://gmpg.org/xfn/11">
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="<?php bloginfo('html_type'); ?>; charset=<?php bloginfo('charset'); ?>" />
    <title><?php bloginfo('name'); ?> <?php if ( is_single() ) { ?> &raquo; Blog Archive <?php } ?> <?php wp_title(); ?></title>

    <meta name="generator" content="WordPress <?php bloginfo('version'); ?>" /> <!-- leave this for stats -->
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="<?php bloginfo('stylesheet_url'); ?>" type="text/css" media="screen" />
    <link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="RSS 2.0" href="<?php bloginfo('rss2_url'); ?>" />
    <link rel="alternate" type="text/xml" title="RSS .92" href="<?php bloginfo('rss_url'); ?>" />
    <link rel="alternate" type="application/atom+xml" title="Atom 0.3" href="<?php bloginfo('atom_url'); ?>" />
    <link rel="pingback" href="<?php bloginfo('pingback_url'); ?>" />

    <?php wp_get_archives('type=monthly&format=link'); ?>
    <?php wp_head(); ?>

    <!--[if IE]>
    <style type="text/css">
    h1#comments, { padding-bottom: 30px; }
    h1#postcomment { padding-top: 20px; }
    #commentlist p, #commentform p { margin-top: -15px; margin-bottom: 30px; }
    .commentauth { clear: both; height: 30px; border-top: 1px solid #9B7B66; text-align: right; font-size: 10px; margin-top: -10px; padding: 5px 0px 10px 0px; }
    </style>
    <![endif]-->
    </head>

    <body>

    <div id="wrap">

    <!-- START HEADER -->
    <div id="head">
    <div id="title"><a>"><?php bloginfo('name'); ?></a></div>
    <div id="shadow"><?php bloginfo('name'); ?></div>
    <div id="desc"><?php bloginfo('description'); ?></div>
    </div>
    <!-- END HEADER -->

    I’d suggest trying:
    <div id="head">
    <div id="title"><a>"><?php bloginfo('name'); ?></a></div>
    <!--<div id="shadow"><?php bloginfo('name'); ?></div>
    <div id="desc"><?php bloginfo('description'); ?></div>-->
    </div>

    Note the <!-- and --> … BTW, that ‘should’ be in your wp-content/themes/[themename]/header.php file.

    Thank you Yosemite (very cool place, we were there last month actually)

    I just deleted
    <div id=”title”>“><?php bloginfo(‘name’); ?></div>
    <!–<div id=”shadow”><?php bloginfo(‘name’); ?></div>

    and it worked! Go look!

    http://www.chocolate-candy-recipe.com

    Thanks for your help!

    <!– START HEADER –>
    <div id=”head”>
    <div id=”title”>“><?php bloginfo(‘name’); ?></div>
    <div id=”shadow”><?php bloginfo(‘name’); ?></div>
    <div id=”desc”><?php bloginfo(‘description’); ?></div>
    </div>
    <!– END HEADER –>

    This is what I’m having a problem with also. The theme they provide can we change the theme header from a certain theme that is avaiable.

    I guess what I am asking can I take the header from my personal site onto one of the theme that is provided?

    And if we can do this where do we go to change it?

    anoccasionalcho: Good work! Don’t forget to mark this resolved (top of this page).

    The only problem with the current solution is that you don’t have a link back to the homepage. So I suggest you put back in that heading:

    <div id="head">
    <h1>
    <a href="<?php bloginfo('url'); ?>"><?php bloginfo('name'); ?></a>
    </h1>
    <p id="desc"><?php bloginfo('description'); ?>
    </div>

    Then put into your stylesheet:

    h1 a:link, h1 a:hover,
    h1 a:visited, h1 a:active {
    position: relative;
    display: block;
    height: 200px;
    width: 770px;
    text-decoration: none;
    border: none;
    background: transparent url(images/header.jpg) no-repeat top right;
    font: 20px/20px sans-serif;
    text-indent: -9999px;
    }
    p#desc {
    font: 1px/1px sans-serif;
    text-indent: -9999px;
    }
