Hi, I’m currently on version 1.22 of the Mission News theme and I notice that when I update the theme, a rotating weather widget that I’ve installed in my header disappears. I’ve checked the Mission News Updates Log but I don’t see anything since 1.22 that might be the cause of the issue.

Unrelated question: I’m on version 1.06 of the Mission News Pro plugin and I’m not able to update beyond that. It says I’m unauthorized. Have I forgotten about a subscription that I let expire?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Is the weather widget code added into the header.php file?

As for the license key, please try resetting the license with the following steps:

    1. Visit the Mission News dashboard page (Appearance > Mission News)
    2. Click the Deactivate button
    3. Once the page refreshes, click the Activate button

Sometimes there can be an error and the license needs to be reset in this way.

Try that and if it doesn’t help, please email me at ben@competethemes.com with your license key and I can look up your key’s current status.

    Thank you!

Hi Ben, thanks for the prompt response. I talked to the freelancer who created the widget for me, and he said that the code was placed into the header.php file but that there was also CSS and some JavaScript files that were part of it. That’s about all I know.

Also, I discovered that my subscription to the plugin had expired, so I went ahead and re-upped.

    Thanks for renewing!

These updates should be moved into a “child theme” instead of editing the files directly in Mission News. When a WordPress theme is updated, the new version completely overwrites the old version which is why the widget is disappearing. I go into this in a bit more detail in this article: https://www.competethemes.com/blog/wordpress-customize-child-theme/

You can find a starter child theme for download on our site here: https://www.competethemes.com/help/child-theme-mission-news/

Once the changes are moved into the child theme, you will be able to update Mission News without losing any of your changes.
