    Hello,

I am using Virtue theme on my website. I want to replace the standard homepage slider with another one, created with Layerslider. I tried to insert this new slider with the widget and the shortcode options, but they don’t work very well: the slider is not set at the header but almost in the middle of the page.
Also the slider overwrite another widget on the right sidebar – About us.
    The homepage is http://www.travelhysteria.com

I contacted the support team of the plugin, they told me this:
“The position issue is not related to LayerSlider. The widget areas are controlled by your theme and its methods, the widget that contains the slider will appear exactly where your theme calls it. Your page builder is also independent from our plugin, if it does not offer a header area you cannot insert content there. We’d recommend contacting your theme author with this case on how you can implement content like the slider to the header.”

Is there a way to put this slider on the header?

    thanks a lot!

    Enrico

  • the free theme doesn’t have options to place a shortcode slider into the home slider area of your home page.

the closest you could get with the free theme is to follow the instructions Hannah outlined in this thread, but it looks like that might be what you’re already doing:

Let me know if this is helpful!

    hello,

thanks for your reply. I tried that solution, but the result is not so good looking.
The full-width slider overwrite the other widgets on the right sidebar – About us, etc. Also is not right in the header but below.

So I have 2 ways to fix this issue:
1- the plugin authors told me that is still possible to use the php function:
“Another inserting method is the PHP function that you can use to call the slider from the template files. ou need to add it to the .php extension files. Your theme’s template files are located in the /wp-content/themes/<yourtheme>/ folder, for example header.php. Please note that using this method requires web development and some css knowledge, it is not recommended for inexperienced users.”

2- buy the premium version of the Theme. In this case, are we sure that I can integrate my LayerSlider slider in the header?

    thanx

    1. You can certainly edit the template files, but this does require a bit of messing around with php. You would need to make a child theme as well so that you don’t lose your changes when you update the theme:
    http://www.kadencethemes.com/child-themes/
If this is something you want to do, the theme dev will be able to let us know what files we need to edit, but if you’re not an experienced user, this can be a bit of a difficult task. Let us know if that’s something you’re interested in.

    2. The premium theme will allow you to use whatever slider you want for a home slider. It also comes bundled with its own premium sliders (kadence slider, cyclone slider, and revolution slider), so this is a viable option for you as well. You also get quicker support via the premium theme forums.

Hopefully this clears things up for you.

    Thank you for your reply.
Unfortunately I am not able to edit the template files, so I’d buy the premium version of Virtue.

Is there a guide that could help me to understand how to add my LayerSlider slider to the header?

    Thanks!

In addition to my previous question: when I’ll update the theme to the Premium Version, my website will remain exactly the same as it is now until I’ll make some changes, right?
No need to do some backup?

    thanks again!

Here is a tutorial that will walk you through upgrading the theme from the free to the premium version:
    https://www.kadencethemes.com/installing-virtue-premium/

If you follow those steps, then you wont lose any of your settings. If you want to backup your site though, it certainly wouldn’t hurt anything.

Adding your shortcode slider into the home page of the free theme is pretty simple. In Theme Options> Home Slider, you just have to select “shortcode entry,” and you’ll be able to place the shortcode there.

    Hello Kevin,

thanks for sharing the link. I am gonna upgrade it now: as soon as I will finish, I’ll let you know the outcome.

    The above post should read:

“Adding your shortcode slider into the home page of the PREMIUM theme”

Hopefully that keeps from confusion anyone who reads this in the future.
