 * sometimes the header (image) shows up, sometimes doesn’t.
    What’s the problem?

 * Hi, I’m not sure about that, but usually, the image related css-stuff is handled
   in index.php of the theme and not in its style.css because of loading problems.
 * The reason is not that clear to me (except that you can use an absolute path)…
   but it can maybe solve your problem.
 * btw: Your page is not xhtml 1.0 compliant, you should’t link to the validator.
   Or better: You should fix the xhtml issues.
