Screenshots below compare 2.5 with 2.7, but while I don’t have visual proof I can tell you that 2.6 was in fact okay. The problem relates to a header menu insertion of the language selector of the polylang plugin. You have the option to show language name and/or flags. The plugin still works properly but the graphics for the flags have lost their vertical centering and are at the top of the menu bar. I can’t see any CSS that relates, and will relate anecdotally that undoing the one difference within style.css between versions (a.blue.float) doesn’t resolve the problem; not that it should, but even so I have checked.
