Hi, you have to exclude some links from being affected by the plugin, specifically the menu/header ones.
You do that in the “Excluded Links” tab, in plugin’s settings.

Please give further explanation as to what settings we use in the external links page so the menu is not fully broken. There is nothing obvious in there, and I’m not comfortable just checking and unchecking willy nilly to see what works and what doesn’t.

Simply saying “you have to exclude some links from being affected” is very vague.

You have misspoken in your reply to furnituresuppliesuk.

You do not make the change in the “external links” setting. It’s in the EXCEPTIONS setting.

In the future, it would be far more helpful if you provide correct information so that your customers are not confused and trying to sort things out in the wrong area.

Ok I have tried to add the primary menu items to the exclude list, I don’t have a clue how to do this correctly I am just guessing using the information provided. Anyway I added the following text from my links but on the front end the header is still visually broken.

    Set Title: {Shop}{By Range}{By Room}{By Category}{By Material}{View All}{Furniture Sale}

Maybe the shop logo link to homepage needs to be added?

After revisiting this page once again I see @hcself71 has mentioned EXCEPTIONS, thank you for this information, I thought it was just me going mad!.

Ok so I have now tried to the following.

Skip pages or posts (id’s): post-244694,post-245461,post-245538,post-244604,post-245596

    Header still broken??

Please view site here and advise what links/ titles/ post ids I need to add to where.Furniture Supplies UK

    Thank you in advance

    Hi,
Due to the markup of your menu, specifically the links having no CSS classes or href attributes, it won’t be possible to make an exception not to parse/modify the menu as we need a CSS class to target it.

You can try putting in the menu parent id #top-menu in exceptions, CSS classes but I don’t think it’ll work.

Thank you for taking a look at this, I tried the #top-menu but no luck.

I have done some more testing it seems the issue only occurs with Divi Mega Pro activated. The top menu items do have a css class set and also added to the EXCLUDED css class list.. i.e divimegapro-244614,divimegapro-244488.. & so on..

Each top menu item is also able to create a CSS Selector Trigger: I tried this but maybe I am doing something wrong.

The top menu items “custom links” these are also not actual links i.e no url so maybe these are breaking it?

If we are all out of ideas please let me know so I can bin it and find an alternative.

    Thank you

May be worth mentioning that the horizontal menu becomes vertical with only 3 links visible.. By Range, By Category & View All.

    Clutching straws here! πŸ˜€

For anyone else experiencing issues I have found that by going to EXCEPTIONS then deselecting “Apply settings on: All contents (the whole page)” then select all types individually resolves the issue. πŸ˜‰

Glad you got it working πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»

Yes thank you, got there in the end!

It is a strange fix though no?? Is it a plugin issue or does selecting all of the types individually actually select less than the first method? Just curious!

    Thank you.. πŸ™‚

    Morning,

Honestly – not sure πŸ™ We’re looking into decreasing the number of options as this is too much even for the most patient and seasoned users (and for us too). I believe the previous developer had reasons to do things like this, but it’s just overwhelming.

If you have a minute, please leave a review. It helps us out a lot. Thank you! https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/wp-external-links/reviews/#new-post

Thanks, furnituresuppliesuk. It broke menus on 2 of my sites. Simply de-selecting All contents and then selecting Post Content fixed it beautifully!

@2lovehim, thank you for taking the time to post a comment. That’s great news, pleased to hear my comment helped someone else resolve the issues I was experiencing πŸ™‚

Thanks for posting that, yes, that seems to solve the issue πŸ™‚
We will look into improving the link targeting as well.
