he vertical submenu shows fine in all browsers but not in IE7

  • The vertical submenu shows fine in all browsers but not in IE7 when I hover over “Diensten”.
    I use :
    1. WP 3.4.2.
    2. Theme: twenty eleven
    3. Customer subtheme.

    This is normal for generally all themes that use CSS for the drop down, as this style;

    #access ul li:hover > ul {
    display: block;
    }

    Doesn’t work. Specifically, it’s the greater than symbol that isn’t recognised in older browsers.

    What is the solution?
    When I remove “>” , the vertical menu is still not showing .

    Vertical sub-menu disappears under page. See website
