Support » Fixing WordPress » Having a blog within a non-blog based site

  • I’m trying to emulate what some people have done on sites that are WP based, but are not blogs themselves, but then they have an actual blog at, sort of like, but I’m looking to add more content-based pages rather than blog-based. Is this 2 WP installs, just themed the same? Or is there some way to do this with only one install?

I’m attempting to make my own theme, if that helps out the answer any.

  • You can just install WordPress in a subdirectory, like /blog, and build your static page in the root of your site, but here’s what I would do:

Create ‘pages’ in WordPress, that have your page based content. Create one page that you want to be your home page, and go into Settings/Reading, and select the page you created as your home page.
Then you can create a page called Blog, don’t put anything on it, and select that as the ‘posts page’. This should do exactly what you want with no custom programming.

I think that will work how I’m wanting. I’ll give it a try.

That seems to be what I’m looking for, but I have another problem now:
I’d like to disable commenting on static pages, but leave it for the blog section. Is there any way to do that?

You can enable or disable comments on each page. So just go to each of your content pages and un-check the option “Allow Comments”
