Support » Plugin: Business Directory Plugin - Directories for WordPress » Have to buy a $59 PayPal Payment upgrade to use

  • The default payment types are Authorize.net and Google Wallet. Auth.net is too expensive and Google Wallet is not for commercial use.
The only way to test this on my site is to buy a $59 upgrade. Boo.

    Hi alrioart,

I’m sorry that you had a negative experience here. Sounds like you didn’t really give us a try, the rating is just on one aspect.

We do really offer a LOT in the free plugin. PayPal isn’t one of those items, but we do have a gateway you can use in the free version (it used to be Google Wallet, discontinued in March of 2015 by them, and now it’s Authorize.net). The costs of Authorize.net are comparable to PayPal (2.9% and 0.30/transaction) but Authorize.net does have a setup fee.

The premium add-ons are not required to use the directory at all–you can absolutely setup and test a directory without them. The plugin has tons of features in it on its own. Of course, the effort to make a fully functional directory, support it regularly and continue to enhance it isn’t free and we offer some of the best support around for ANY plugin. It seems pretty unfair to say that we’re a 1-star plugin just based on that single fact alone.

If you want to have another go at the directory or if you have questions or issues, we’d be happy to help you make the best of it.

If you would have been up front on the demo and promotion material that high cost PayPal plug in was needed I wouldn’t have installed it and spent time configuring it.
I wouldn’t mind paying or helping the developer with additional plugins but $59 is crazy for something that when advertised for free should work out of the box.
You KNOW PayPal is the #1 used payment form.
I do appreciate the reply but you could save yourself one star ratings by being up front with your clients.

    Hi alrioart,

I don’t believe we’re being deceptive in any way here–the premium modules are clearly stated as upgrades on our main site and here on the WP.org repository.

The core plugin is free and we never charge you for that. The add ons are entirely optional, as I noted above. The directory does work with just the free plugin. Like many other popular plugins in the WordPress repository (Gravity Forms, Easy Digital Downloads, even Yoast’s plugins), if you want access to certain features those are paid upgrades.

For us to be able to continue to offer the support we do, as well as constant updates for the plugins, it’s not unreasonable to collect some money to support ourselves. More than 50% of the plugins in the repository are abandoned after 2 years, we are a notable exception here. We’ll be around for a long time to come, and the reason why is that we ask for some support from users.

We’ll have to agree to disagree here on that point. I hope you find a directory solution that better fits your budget. We’re a good fit for a lot of folks, but not for everyone.

How is it unfair at all??? Your page implies that sure you can upgrade, but nowhere does it say that if you want to actually have BASIC FUNCTIONALITY, you’ll have to pay 59.95 for every individual *module*. Maybe if you had the balls to change your WP page here to fully state in advance that if you want to use it for anything useful you’ll need to cough up all this extra money, people like me would not come here and give you negative reviews.

Additionally, as far as plain old business directories go, yours is not that attractive out of the box.

if this many people are saying you are being deceptive, maybe instead of lashing out at them, you can just stop being deceptive in your advertising!

Exactly!! They are being deceptive and they know it. Someone should contact WP and have this removed! Every single *module* is another 59.95!! How ridiculous!
