Hi, I enabled multi-site and everything with sub-directory install, and at the moment I'm trying to make personal blogs for people with author profiles(kind of like a tumblr that's uniformed with the theme) giving the person that one page they could update as opposed to a whole site. Any help would be much appreciated. THANKS!

What I'm trying to do is similar to these examples:

    http://hypebeast.com/blog/
    http://hypebeast.com/blog/jahan/
    and
    http://blogs.thehue.ca/justin/

  2. If you install in the folder /blog/, then you can make http://hypebeast.com/blog/jahan/

If you install in the subdomain blog., then you can make http://blogs.thehue.ca/justin/

Hmm I see, when you say install in the /blog/ folder what files do i put or install in there?

Also when i try to create a site with url /blogs/example/ it leads me to a 404 page. Thanks for the help.

  4. I mean if you make a folder on your server called 'blog' and install wordpress THERE.

You probably installed WP in http://hypebeast.com

Ok now I'm just confused, so I have to do a separate word press install into that folder even if i have multi-site enabled already?

I know that the hypebeast site is made with wordpress but I only used it as an example. I'm working on my site right now, and the thing I'm asking is how do I get pages similar to those personal author/user + blog post pages. (Its the last thing I need and then I'm finally done)

    (sorry I'm still a noob)

  6. What I'm saying is WordPress builds the URLs off of wherever you installed it.

You can't (easily) force /blog/ into your URLs since it's a restricted blog name.

What I'm trying to do is similar to these examples:

    http://hypebeast.com/blog/
    http://hypebeast.com/blog/jahan/
    and
    http://blogs.thehue.ca/justin/

How about you tell me what URLs you want? If you want blog/jahan, the easiest thing is to install WP in /blog/

If you want blogs.thehue.ca/justin/ then you could use MultiSite and make a MultiNetwork, so blogs is it's own site, and it makes it's own sub-subsites. but that can get complicated.

The urls I would want would be similar to this: (Cuz I already enabled sub-directory multi-site)

    samoetc.com/blog(s)/bernard

So i would install WP in blogs.dir within WP-content??

Sorry for the trouble and thanks for the help..

  8. Not blogs.dir, that's a special folder, leave it alone :)

Okay the EASIEST way to do that is to install WP in a folder called blog(s).

WordPress MultiSite runs best if it's in the folder you want as your base path. You want blog (or blogs) as your base path, so it's best to just install it in a folder with that name. BUT.

You've already got your site in the main folder (samoetc.com I presume) so you may want to make a subsite called 'blogs' and then use http://wpebooks.com/networks/ or http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-multi-network/ to make a SUB netowrk.

Ok umm lets start fresh, I tried to make sub networks but failed miserably(I couldn't find half the options spending 5 hours) so I redid multi-site onto a sub-domain.

    blogs.samoetc.com

How do I do what what you suggested in your previous reply? Making blogs its own site and making it have its own sub-sites.

  10. I redid multi-site onto a sub-domain.

    blogs.samoetc.com

Okay. Then just make subsites as subfolders off that. :) Yeah, that'll work fine.

haha ok, ummmm hahaha this is probably going to be my last question but how do I make sub-sites as sub-folders? I understand the terms, I just don't understand the process fully yet. THANKS AGAIN!

  12. You know when you setup WordPress Multisite and you added in a line to yoru wp-config.php that says 'subdomains' and it has a value of true?

    Change it to FALSE.

ok I did that but now I'm back at square one.

  14. No you're not.

blogs.samoetc.com is your site, installed and configured ON blogs.samoetc.com rigth? That's the BASE of your MultiSite network.

    Go in to blogs.samoetc.com/wp-admin/network

    Add a site.
